Blending fiber
Felting acorns
yarn: (1) a continuous strand of twisted fibers used in weaving or knitting, (2) a narrative of adventures.
My eyes popped open at 2:30am last night this morning and after 40 minutes of laying in the dark I got out of bed and came downstairs. On the rare occasion that I am restless, knitting helps to quiet my thoughts. Instead though I opted to sit down at the Lendrum spinning wheel to spin a while.
I am not sure that spinning was a good idea. It didn't make me sleepy rather I only went back to bed at 4am after spinning all the fiber and filling up the second bobbin.
ITW April Club Color, "Season of the Witch"
I must be on a roll, another day of "learning".
Self: Say, that pin-loom woven square is made with the same yarn as the handknit leaves. I should take it apart and repurpose the yarn. Afterall it is ITW handspun Texel sheep wool and the colors are very autumnal.
3:27 pm. Pick, pick, pick.
Self: this yarn is very toothy and grabby.
4:20 pm. Pick, pick, pick.
Self: I guess I have to finish this project since I already have an hour invested.
6:02 pm
Self: Well, that's a surprisingly small ball of yarn for two hours of work.
Next time - - Do. Not. Try. To. Repurpose. Handspun. Yarn.
Do it once and - hopefully - learn from the mistakes.
Lesson 1. When warping the Wee Inkle Loom the position of the tension device needs to be forward.
Lesson 2. Not a good idea to start a new project at 9:30 pm. **
Today I cut the warp, moved the adjustment bar, and retied the warp.
I was able to weave 7 more inches before cutting off the warp, 30.5" woven band.
** The Wee Inkle came to me pre-warped by the Etsy Seller and had I reviewed her website pics I would have - hopefully - noted my warping mistake. Here's a pic of my loom from the website, warped beautifully and expertly by Arlisa M.
Mattie and I happened upon an opossum in the front yard the other night.
It was too dark to see anything - beyond the reach of the porch light - but the way Mattie was snarling I immediately thought Mountain Lion.
I increased the volume on my phone and blasted out whatever Podcast I was listening to and in the illumination I saw this little critter. Not a mountain lion but still scary.
I grabbed my deaf dog by her nape and pulled her away and we both hurried to the house.
The ornaments are completed and ready to be tagged for the CCW Guild Sale. Yay.
Last year I made 16 and sold them all so this year I made the max amount of 25 items.
The Sheep Line Up (12)
Llamas and Alpacas (6)
Chickens aka The Ladies (5)
Two Oddballs: An anatomically correct Billy goat and a Moose.
I am just about finished with the ornaments I started a week and a half ago.
The ornaments have been stuffed with Ember's fluff,
and will be hung with ties made from my handspun Churro wool yarn.
I think the wee ornaments are extra-special. But that's just me.
