Back to Balls

This was my Quaker Yarn Stretcher Boomerang Shawl. I knitted it with handspun yarn.

 

From the pattern: "Barbara Walker lists the stitch as Quaker Ridging - hence the name."

 

 

All well and good, but I didn't care for it much; it was meh.

I didn't even finish it. It still had two tails that needed to be woven in.

I decided to repurpose and frogged (rip it, rip it) the shawl back to yarn.

 

 

Pizzazz Plus

Tomorrow is Spinners' Group which means today I needed to wind Scarf Balls. 

I spent a few hours this afternoon combining and winding multi-strands of yarn. Diane's Doubling Stand was put to good use again as I wound 5-strands together.

 

 

 

I came across a yarn that was wound with 3-strands. I thought someone had wound it, but found the Ball Band tucked into the middle of the cake.

 

 

Pizzazz yarn with another strand of neutral fingering-weight yarn.

 

 

Doubling Stand

A Guild friend gave me her Doubling Stand. Weavers use it to twist two or three threads together.

 

 

 

 I am using the Doubling Stand to make Scarf Balls.

 

 

Knit Pumpkins

Using handspun yarn to knit pumpkins, they are adorable.

 

 

I thought this one was a little too puffy; it was easy to remove some of the stuffing.

 

Fall Socks

Received a nice big package of Regia Sock Yarn from Little Knits, my "LYS". It's my biennial Sock Yarn stock up.

The five skeins in the middle are calling to be knit first. Yes, looking at you Funky Stripes.

 

 

But instead I think the four skeins in the top row would make lovely seasonal socks.

 

 

This and That

I washed 8 skeins of nice yarn.

 

 

I sent off another 12 more Charity scarves along with several balls of novelty yarns that would be a challenge for me to wind into Scarf Balls.

Too bubbly, 

 

 

too thin, 

 

 

and too hot pink.

 

 

I managed to get some weaving done but mostly it was a little of this and a little of that.

 

Team Effort

Another full day spent working on the Comfort scarves and the Straw Bale Knitters group.

Today I sent out a group email, "Straw Bale Knitters June Update" with Stats: 28 members, 2025 totals - 204 Comfort Scarves, 1 Shawl, and 15 hats sent to Handmade Especially for You, and Pics of donated yarns received in the last couple of months including Marya's yarn.

My contribution

 

 

 My friend Diane responded as soon as I posted the group email and offered her help. 

 

 

That is a lot of yarn. I promptly emailed her back and asked if she could wind skeins into balls. She readily agreed and I have already set some yarn aside for her. (The black yarn is 100% alpaca, yum.)

 

 

I have more yarn in the skein but I would like to wash them first.

 

 

I am glad Diane will be helping with yarn management. It can be a tedious process especially if the skein is tangled and needs to be wound off by hand.

Full Bins

Today I mailed off two large boxes which contained forty scarves (and one hat) and brought home two giant bags of yarn donated to me for Scarf-making.

A Gathering of Guilds: I Spin

I spin with a group of energized and energetic Spinners. The workshop instructor, Meagan Condon, is knowledgeable, patient, and very kind. I am glad I chose her class, "A Spinner's Exploration of Color and Texture".

I spin on a surprisingly comfortable and ergonomic couch. The chairs in the room did not fit me well so I lucked out with the couch.

 

 

I spin this beautiful braid of Targhee wool called Wooden Duck. Coincidence? I think not.

 

  

I spin a fiber color wheel and learned about optical blending.

 

 

 

I spin the Wooden Duck braid a few different ways. I am particularly excited about the third sample (#5 on the tag). It is a combo spin - a single of my fiber plus a single of Autumn's fiber plied together. Wow, so much more interest and depth.
