Good night and goodbye to 2024.
yarn: (1) a continuous strand of twisted fibers used in weaving or knitting, (2) a narrative of adventures.
This month my Lendrum spinning wheel celebrates a birthday - 25 years old.
Patti Lee - the original owner - wrote her name, phone number, and the date "Dec 1999" under the treadles.
I did not have an opportunity to meet Patti Lee. I purchased the wheel in July 2018, she had passed away the previous month.
She donated her fiber studio to the CCW Guild when she entered Hospice Care. Most items were given away at a Pass-It-Forward event but a few items - the Lendrum and her weaving looms - were sold by the Guild to benefit Guild Scholarships (Camperships).
I wish she knew how grateful I am to have received her beloved Lendrum Spinning Wheel.

This morning the fog was thick and insulating. It was so quiet - no human sounds - beautiful and eerie.
Colors seemed more vibrant: the blue of the bench, the green of the hillside.
When the fog lifted - surprise - a covey of California quail.
I had hoped to wear a new pair of socks today but - alas - I did not have any that were finished.
I decided I had time before I started Christmas dinner for The Man and me and this festive-looking pair of socks were ready for toes.
Dinner was delicious despite all the smoke I created from pan-searing. I enlisted The Man's help in opening a few windows before the smoke alarms went off (they didn't).
I was able to finish one sock while we sat together on the couch.
The Gift is Time.
Happy Holidays, 2024.
Heavy marine layer sliding down into the valley below.
Holiday get-together.
Playing with Pin looms.
Weaving the ground fabric.
Sampling - Loom within a loom 2x2 and 4x4.
It didn't work. I unwove the 2x2 piece.
Sampling - Chain overlay stitch with a crochet hook.
Hmm, not too bad. Easy way to layer/embellish a pin loom square.
I resumed the Pooled Warp Scarf project that I started in February. It had been in a Time-out bin.
I had been happily weaving along till I found a skipped thread. I needed to decide if I was going to (a) unweave and remove the error, or (b) repair the mistake and hope that the fix wasn't noticeable.
I wrote that I would "think about it".
Now here it is - December- and I've made a decision: I unwove.
First I had to remove the hemstitiching.
Unweave about an inch up to the mistake.
Then hemstitch again.
Well, that wasn't so bad. It certainly didn't warrant a ten month Time-out.
The Man came home last week with a ton of fish: Rock Cod and two giant Ling Cods. He said he caught them all in the morning, over a few hours, on the same day.
It must have been an exciting few hours for The Man. Yeehaw
The fillets of one Ling Cod.
He gave some away to his dock mates in Ventura and brought the rest home for me to distribute to my Guild friends. Today I brought 14 bags of frozen fish to Spinners' Group.
It was a small group today so everyone got to take fish home, I didn't have to start a "waiting" list.
To thank us for the Ling Cod she received Denise gave me a bottle of her Olive Oil. (I promptly gave her a second bag of fillets.)
We don't sell the fish - we give it away for free - but I did mention that The Man "likes cookies and chocolate". Hint, hint.
