Text from Lauren:
Good morning! He’s hanging with the herd this morning ☀️
Lauren's Mom and Jack chatting with a neighbor.
It looks like he is settling in nicely.
Today Jack went to live with, Lauren, a neighbor. Getting him there was easy-peasy.
I am sure it won't be too long before Jack adopts into his new happy herd and Lauren's menagerie farm of 2 donkeys, 3 pot-bellied pigs, 3 goats, 2 (or 3) dogs, a multitude of hens ("We get 16 eggs a day"), a bunch of ducks ("You guys want some ducks?"), and not to be forgotten, Lauren's 2 daughters.
It has been a week since we said goodbye to Boots. Our main concern after putting her down was having Jack be an only goat.
The Vet suggested Jack might be fine as a single goat since he is bonded to me. The Vet told me to watch Jack for anxiety or stressed behavior.
We have reached out to a couple of neighbors who have goats to see if they would like to add Jack to their herd.
In the meantime he seems to be handling the lone goat situation just fine.
We said goodbye to Boots today. The Vet came by and put her down peacefully.
Mama, Bitsy, and now Boots were all let go when severe joint disease and pain overran their Quality of Life.
Today Boots feasted on Tortilla chips. Yesterday she enjoyed lying on Mattie's bed with the gentle fan blowing over her. A good life.
Boots: Adopted June 16, 2016 - June 4, 2026.
One of the hens is pecking and breaking eggs. I only have two chickens and only Kochi is currently laying.
Fortunately Kochi is pretty good about letting me know she's laid an egg. If I hear her egg squawks I collect right away.
