Redundancy

Into the Whirled November 2024 Club Colorway "Redundancy" Shetland Wool + Tussah Silk 70/30.

Braid split in half - tip to tail - vertically, then split again to create four long sections.

Each long section split in half horizontally to create eight shorter sections: 1A+1B, 2A+2B, 3A+3B, 4A+4B.

Each short section split into four sections vertically.

Spin each section with two Bosworth Suspended (Drop) Spindles. Wind off onto a storage/weaving bobbin after each section.

Mystery wood Bossie with sections 1A, 2A, and 3A. Next up 4A.

Cherry wood Bossie with sections 1B and 2B. Next up to spin 3B.

Plan: Er, Sock yarn.

Better than a Sandwich

Beth made Spicy Tuna Sushi for our LL Group potluck yesterday. I asked her for the recipe while I was eating my third piece.

Today I was still hankering for more.

She used Kewpie Mayo which I don't have so I added a little sugar and shoyu. Beth also used Go-Chu-Jang for the heat.

A little more heat.

I peeled and sliced a mini cuke. Instead of rolling the sushi with a bamboo mat (I don't have one) I used the Spam Musubi mold.

It was so good I ate the whole thing and called it lunch.

Sitting it Out

A nice walk around Atascadero Lake this afternoon.

The Man continued on for a second lap while I waited in the shade.

I met a Suffolk-cross sheep named Tucker. He is living his best life.

Spinning in Public

Packing up the Lendrum for the Sheep Shearing Shindig at City Farm SLO tomorrow. It is their 4th Annual Event, and my second time to participate.

I have added a folding stool as part of my Spinning gear after the Couch episode at Asilomar.

I hope it is comfortable because it is light-weight and compact. I even managed to zip it into the Spinning bag alongside the Lendrum.

I am taking several spindles for folks to play with. To make it easier to explain I put arrows to show the direction the spindle needs to turn. (Clockwise for a Z-spun single.)

I had The Man give it a try and  - tada -  his first Handspun yarn.

A Box of Her Own

Karin, a member of the Straw Bale Knitters, brought me completed charity scarves at our monthly Guild meeting in SLO today. She knitted fifteen scarves. Amazing, right?

I try to provide her with Fun Fur yarn for the ends but all the rest comes from her own yarn stash.

It is so fun to see her combination of colors and textures.

This weekend I will attach Karin's signed gift tags and then another Box-O-Scarves will be mailed.

Reshoot

The pics I posted yesterday of Into the Whirled April Fiber club did not show how beautiful "Choreography and Merriment" truly is. So here it is again.

Now I am happy.

Warming Up

I came home to a Broody hen.

The easiest (and quickest) way for Kochi to break out of the cycle is a little R& R in the broody pen.

I have found that 72 hours is an effective stay with lots of quiet time and special treats.

This morning she went back to the coop.

Sage was hiding in the coop. Poor thing she didn't look too happy to see her bossy Coop-mate back.

A Gathering of Guilds: I Spin

I spin with a group of energized and energetic Spinners. The workshop instructor, Meagan Condon, is knowledgeable, patient, and very kind. I am glad I chose her class, "A Spinner's Exploration of Color and Texture".

Meagan Condon (pic)

I spin on a surprisingly comfortable and ergonomic couch. The chairs in the room did not fit me well so I lucked out with the couch.

I spin this beautiful braid of Targhee wool called Wooden Duck. Coincidence? I think not.

I spin a fiber color wheel and learned about optical blending.

I spin the Wooden Duck braid a few different ways. I am particularly excited about the third sample (#5 on the tag). It is a combo spin - a single of my fiber plus a single of Autumn's fiber plied together. Wow, so much more interest and depth.

I spin textured yarns.

A not-quite-Cable yarn (not enough ply twist)

I spin and unspin thereby learning how to deconstruct a yarn and decipher it's structure.

I spin and learn and spin and learn and now I want to spin even more.

Thank you Meagan Condon of Luthvarian Fiber Arts for a wonderful workshop.
